A Grays Harbor Tradition

Duffy's Restaurant has a history spanning over seventy-nine years. On December 24th, 1945, Bob Larson and Russ Hindman opened the doors, taking the name from a popular radio show of the day, Duffy's Tavern. From the beginning, it was a clean and respectable place where men felt comfortable bringing their wives. In 1957, a pressure fryer was purchased that turned out delicious halves of fried chicken for 79¢. Add an order of cole slaw and a grilled, seasoned French roll and it made a dinner fit for a king. The chicken became so popular that many orders were picked up to go. After the addition of the chicken, business picked up considerably, so Minkler's Grocery Story, located next door, was acquired and Duffy's added an addition in 1964, doubling the size of the building. The new twin peaked Duffy's boasted a piano bar and a barbershop. Many of the customers began requesting a cocktail lounge, so in 1969, the building was remodeled. The tavern was changed to a restaurant and a cocktail lounge was added.

Bob's son, Ralph, joined the business in 1978, helping ease Bob and Russ into semi-retirement. Soon after, the original Duffy's was remodeled in 1983, doubling in size. The Thunderbird (Truck and Tractor) was purchased and demolished for a parking lot.

In 1987 the third generation was brought into Duffy's with Ralph's son Paul, who had just earned a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration from Washington State University.

Grant, Paul's son, graduated from Washington State University in 2024, and is the 4th generation to join Duffy's.

Duffy's has been in the community over eighty years and it has been our goal to serve our customers a varied menu with home-style cooking and plenty to eat.
